There are always two sides of the coin. Any action can be achieved by many methods, and there is no right or wrong method. Philosophy aside, a sofa buying experience is a lifetime experience and there are always all kinds of advice pouring out from everywhere: which to buy? Where to buy? How to buy?
All in all, there are two ways to go about it: Online shopping and Store shopping. And as with anything else, there are pros and cons to both and thats what we are going to talk about here.
Online Shopping: With the exponential growth in e-commerce, furniture sellers are not behind as they have captured many of pain points that come from store shopping, some of them being:
1.Vast range of choices from multiple sellers across the nation, sometimes across the globe. Whereas the stores offer only limited models of sofa sets, which become redundant after visiting few stores. Youve seen one, youve seen them all.
2. Saving of time and energy and shopping from the comfort of the home. Nobody wants to spend all the time and energy scouring shops, especially when you have kids in tow. It can be a fruitless and exhausting experience.
3. Convenient payment options and at times, free shipping. It is easy to pay by card without extra charges, and if you are such a big fan of cash, cash-on-delivery options are available too. Some online shopping sites offer an EMI scheme which can go easy on your pockets, especially if you are decorating from scratch. Whereas stores often make you pay for the delivery in the name of transport charge, even while claiming free delivery (After all, the store is offering free delivery, but it is the truck driver whom you have to pay. Hmph.)
4. Easy to make decisions when all the choices are right in front of you on the screen. If you are comparing options within a site, then there are comparison features which allow you to compare then and there. And even if you are making a comparison between two sofasets on two different sites, all you have to do is change windows. Hardly takes any time and energy. Whereas, by the time you have found something you may like in one store, you have already forgotten the make and the model of the last sofa set you had liked in the previous one. And going back to that, especially if it is not in the vicinity, can be taxing even to think of it.
Store Shopping: Good old fashioned store shopping will never go out of fashion as long as we have our senses with us. What is online shoppings poison, is store-shoppings meat.
1. Online shopping may be the boom of the time, but nothing can beat the personal touch that comes from shopping from the store. The feel of the upholstery, and the comfort level of the sofa set can only be imagined when shopping online, but experienced while shopping in the store.
2. Store shopping is all about the personal touch, as we mentioned, and that covers a lot of ground. If you do happen to finally fall in love with the sofa of your dream, your retailer will give you a plethora of choices for the upholstery and cushions. When you are shopping online, you are on your own. You may get a vast amount of choices in the sofa set, but you may not get any customization options with the sofa set you have chosen when you are shopping online.
3. When in India, bargaining is a must. There is always a possibility of lowering the price and that possibility can come to fruition with excellent bargaining skills. While online shopping, there is just the one price quoted, and although there may be a lot of discount, there is no way to negotiate with the seller via the site. Every website has rules of dealing with sellers outside the site to reduce fraudulent practices. So if you do contact the seller outside the site, it is at your own risk.
4. If you are redecorating, this can be a huge advantage of store shopping. Most stores offer exchange of old with new. Of course, there are a lot of fine-print terms and conditions associated with such offers, but if the deal works out, you can get rid of your old one and get a new one, all in one go. This is hard to do when you are shopping online, purely because of logistics. But there are a few bold websites looking into crossing this hurdle.
5. This may not be a very practical advantage of store shopping for a sofa, but there is something to be said about creating memories when shopping for a sofa set. Jumping and cuddling into each sofa set within sight and getting incredulous looks from the store staff, choosing the upholstery to match the interiors and finally seeing the sofa of your dreams delivered.
So you see, there is no one correct method of shopping for a sofa. For all you know, you smart people can get the best of both the worlds but selecting sofas online and checking them out in the store for comfort and style; comparing prices online and in the store; scouring both the ways. Even if you find yourself leaning towards store shopping, the online shopping method does help you reach a decision of how to choose the right sofa.
